Q: Are all of the items guaranteed in stock?

A: We try to update the website as often as possible to reflect out of stock conditions. However, the ability to order an item does not guarantee that it will be in stock when your order is processed. You will be notified if an order is not available.

Q: Why can't I choose the size and color I want?

A: If you are unable to select a specific size or color, it typically means that the item is out of stock. Try checking back in 2 - 3 weeks to see if your size or color is available.

Q: I can't find a specific item on the website, are there items available that are not listed on the website?

Textbooks

Q: When can I purchase my textbooks?

A: The online ordering system opens usually 2 - 3 weeks before classes begin. Check the textbook ordering page for exact dates for each semester.

Q: How can I find out what books I will need for my class?

A: The books for your classes will be listed on the textbook ordering page. Just search by course and it will display all the books that are required and or recommended for that section.

Q: Can I purchase used books?

A: Used books will display on the textbook ordering page when available for that title. Used books are a great value!

Q: Why are there no used books for my course?

A: When a new edition of a book comes out and the old edition is deemed obsolete or out dated then the bookstore can only purchase new. This decision is made by the instructor for the benefit of the student.

Q: What are custom course packs?

A: Custom course packs are specific to a course taught here at the University, required by that instructor. The purpose is to provide the student with the materials they need (i.e., anthologies, course packets, readers, and class handouts) at a fair price.

Q: What is the deadline for returning books?

A: For Fall and Spring semesters you have 7 business days from date of purchase up until the end of drop/add. Those dates are posted in the store and on your receipt. For summer classes you have 2 business days from date of purchase.

Q:  When can I sell back my textbooks to the Bookstore?

A: The UVM Bookstore buys back year round, but the best time to sell your textbooks is during Buy Back. Buy Back is at the end of the fall and spring semesters. It generally starts the  Thursday after the last day of classes through the next Saturday (Finals week). Dates are posted in the store.

Q: How much will I get for my books?

A: The best time to sell your books is during buyback.  This is when the bookstore has orders from the professors regarding which books are being used here, at UVM, for the following semester.  If they are being used here, the bookstore will pay top value for your books up to 40% of the current new price of the book.   You will receive the wholesaler buyers guide price if the book will not be used at UVM the following semester. You can check the wholesale price for a book on the sell textbook page.
